Rachel is a childhood friend of Monica's but they separated after leaving school. She's daddy's little girl who moved into Monica's apartment after leaving Barry, the orthodontist, at the altar. She was determined to become independent and so she reluctantly cut up her credit cards and got a job in Central Perk as a waitress before becoming a personal shopper in Bloomingdales (her place of worship!) and later achieving her ambition by working for Ralph Lauren. There is also the on-off relationship she has with Ross, Monica's big brother, who fell in love with Rachel when she was in ninth grade. However he kept his feelings secret until Chandler let it slip when Ross bought Rachel an expensive broach for her birthday. Rachel went to meet Ross at the airport after his trip to China only to discover he had a new girlfriend. After many setbacks including Paulo, the weenie from Turini, Ross and Rachel finally got it together when they kissed in Central Perk. They later split up after Ross slept with someone else when they were on a 'break'. Rachel then went out with Joshua who she met when working in Bloomingdales before flying to England to tell Ross she still loved him - when he was marrying Emily! Rachel now lives with Phoebe after she had to move out of Monica's apartment so that Chandler could move in.
