Ross is Monica's older brother and he shared a room at college with Chandler. Ross is a palaeontologist at the New York Museum of Natural History and he married his college sweetheart, Carol but they divorced after seven years when Carol revealed she was a lesbian, just before she discovered she was pregnant with Ross' child. The love of his life, Rachel, reappeared after leaving her husband-to-be at the altar but Chandler told Ross to forget about her and move on (he'd fallen in love with her in ninth grade!). So when Ross went to China he started seeing Julie, an old friend but back in New York Chandler let is slip to Rachel that Ross was in love with her. Then when Ross returned Rachel went to meet him at the airport to tell him that she felt the same way but was disappointed when she saw him with Julie. When Ross discovered Rachel's true feelings they began dating until Ross got jealous of Rachel's relationship with her co-worker Mark so they went on a 'break'. That night Rachel waited by the phone for his call but Ross was too busy sleeping with Chloe the copy girl which tore the pair apart. After this Ross met Emily, an English girl and after a short relationship they got engaged and married in England but the marriage lasted less than a day when Ross said Rachel's name in his vows. So with two divorces behind him Ross made the mistake of getting really drunk with Rachel in Las Vegas and ending up in a wedding chapel where they got married, making it his third divorce in as many years.
