Joey is the only guy in a large family of seven sisters who he is very protective of. He's an actor who shares an apartment with Chandler, across the hall form Monica and Rachel. His big break was as Dr Drake Ramoray in Day of Our Lives but he was killed off when he upset the writes with a comment he made in Soap Digest magazine. Now he has to continue getting by on the small jobs such as an ad campaign for AIDS and selling fragrances in a department store. But Joey thought he'd got his big break when he got the part in a movie set in Las Vegas but the production was closed and he had to get a job as a Roman Gladiator at Caesar's Palace.

Joey is popular with the ladies who love his Italian stallion looks however, he's never had a long term relationship. One of his girlfriends, Kathy, cheated on him with his best friend and room mate Chandler and the actress that Joey thought was 'the one' left him to go to LA and appear in General Hospital. However, despite all this Joey is loving, caring and loyal towards his friends and sensitive - he bought Chandler a gold bracelet with his first pay cheque as Dr Drake Ramoray. He was also really upset when Chandler moved out of their apartment so he could live with Monica, that was until Janine, a dancer, moved in with him and he began dating her. However, as with all Joey's relationships it was short-lived because she didn't like his friends and she moved out of the apartment so Joey had to get a job in Central Perk to enable him to experience the luxuries in life like 'buying stuff'!
